Bayer Leverkusen eager to sell N83.7b-rated striker Boniface amid links with Newcastle United

German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are eager to sell Victor Boniface in the summer transfer window amid speculation linking the Nigeria international with Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United. 

According to Sport Bild, Bayer Leverkusen are seeking a base transfer fee of €50 million (approximately N83.7 billion in Nigerian currency) plus bonuses and reportedly do not want to start the 2025-2026 season with the Schick-Boniface combination.

In the winter, Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr made a move for Boniface, sending a delegation to Germany and offering him a lucrative €15 million salary—five times his current wages.

Despite Bayer’s €70 million price tag, the Saudi club ultimately left for England, opting to sign 21-year-old Jhon Durán from Aston Villa instead.

At the start of the season, Boniface was a key figure in Bayer Leverkusen’s attack, but an injury sustained while on international duty with the Super Eagles paved the way for Patrik Schick to take his place in the starting lineup.

With Schick thriving, Boniface has been limited to just one start in 2025.

The 24-year-old is visibly frustrated, even getting into an on-field dispute with Emiliano Buendía.

His behavior has raised concerns within the club as Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly unhappy with his open display of frustration.

Despite his limited playing opportunities in recent months, Boniface has been named in Nigeria's final squad for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
