Best goal in his whole life: Akpata's rocket nominated for West Ham's Goal of the Month
Published: March 05, 2025
Two teenagers of Nigerian descent, Tyron Akpata and Chinaza Nwosu, have been nominated for West Ham United's Goal of the Month for February 2025.
While Akpata,18, has been shortlisted for his strike against Derby County in a Premier League 2 fixture, England U17 international Nwosu's goal against Manchester United U18s has been shortlisted.
Akpata helped West Ham extend their remarkable winning streak in the Premier League 2 to seven with a match-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over the Rams on February 28.
Four minutes before halftime, the Flying Eagles hopeful struck a sensational first-time effort, curling it into the top corner to give West Ham the lead, after he was teed up by Sean Moore on the edge of the area.
Akpata, one of the three Hammers players to feature in all the club's Premier League 2 games in the current season, labelled the strike against Derby County the best goal in his whole life.
He logged 1,307 minutes combined spread across nineteen matches in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy before opening his goalscoring account for the season.
Akpata and Nwosu are battling West Ham United first team star Jarrod Bowen, Women's player Riko Ueki, and Sean Moore for the Goal of the Month accolade.
Akpata signed his first professional contract with the Hammers last summer and has been invited to train with the first team this season.
