Borussia Dortmund win race to sign Chelsea midfielder Chukwuemeka on loan
Published: February 03, 2025
German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have won the race to sign Chelsea's Austrian-born Nigerian midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.
Barring any last-minute changes, the England youth international will be announced as a new player of Borussia Dortmund on deadline day, Monday, February 3.
According to transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have reached an agreement over the loan signing of Chukwuemeka, with a purchase clause included in the deal.
The option to buy has been set at a value higher than the player's release clause of 40 million euros.
The Austrian-English-Nigerian midfielder arrived in Dortmund on Sunday night ahead of his medical scheduled for today.
Borussia Dortmund will pay Chelsea a loan fee and will cover his salary until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
The 8-time German champions have pulled off a significant transfer coup by luring Chukwuemeka to Dortmund, beating Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg, AS Monaco and two unnamed Premier League teams to his signature.
Signed from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022, Chukwuemeka has scored 2 goals in 32 matches for Chelsea.
With 20 matchdays completed and a largely underwhelming season so far, Borussia Dortmund find themselves in eleventh place after their 2-1 victory over 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday.
