Son of ex-Gombe United star scores wonder goal as Chelsea team coached by Nigerian beat Brighton
Published: January 25, 2025Chizaram Ezenwata scored the pick of the goals as Chelsea defeated Brighton & Hove 4-3 in an U18 Premier League encounter at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre in West Sussex on Saturday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
A center forward by trade, Chizzy is the son of ex-Gombe United star Ndubuisi Ezenwata, who played under former Golden Eaglets coach Manu Garba during his career in Nigeria.
Chelsea U18s boss and Nigerian football tactician, Hassan Sulaiman selected two teenagers of Nigerian descent in his starting lineup, including Ezenwata and Tayo Subuloye.
The Blues led 1-0 at half-time, thanks to Joel Philbert who found the net from very close range at minute 37.
After Aidan West scored to bring the game back to parity, the lively Kavuma-McQueen restored Chelsea's one-goal advantage in the 65th minute and Ezenwata made it 3-1 four minutes later.
West scored Brighton's second goal with a towering header, but Ezenwata responded with a sensational chip to make it 4-2 in the 79th minute.
With the Seagulls goalkeeper out of position, Ezenwata sent a chip from 35 yards into the top corner but Brighton reduced the arrears in the 83rd minute when Wheeler-Henry deflected Silsby's effort past the Chelsea goalkeeper.
Ezenwata, who is in his final season as a schoolboy, has tallied six goals in all competitions for Chelsea U18s in the current season, including five in the U18 Premier League and a goal on his FA Youth Cup debut.
