Official: 18yo defender Osuji breaks Kalmar's transfer record with move to Club Brugge
Published: January 23, 2025Vince Osuji's proposed transfer to Club Brugge is now done and dusted, with the Belgian Pro League champions announcing the signing of the 18-year-old on Thursday evening.
The talented central defender ended his association with relegated Swedish Allsvenskan club Kalmar FF by putting pen to paper on a contract with Club Brugge valid until June 30, 2029.
According to the official website of Kalmar, Osuji's transfer to Club Brugge is the club's biggest net sale of all time.
The teenager has earned a move to Club Brugge after playing in only sixteen games as a professional during his time at Kalmar, whom he joined from Nigerian grassroots club De Cardinal Football Academy in April 2024.
Club Brugge have pulled off a significant transfer coup by luring Osuji to Belgian, beating a plethora of clubs to his signature.
He attracted interest from Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg, Major League Soccer teams, FC Dallas and FC Cincinnati, as well as Slavia Prague, Bayer Leverkusen and Anderlecht
Many clubs monitored Osuji during the latter part of the 2024 season, sending scouts to attend Kalmar's matches, and their interest solidified by the end of the year.
"Our focus on Africa will continue, and we hope to see more players like Vince who lift and contribute to Kalmar FF," Kalmar chief Peter Swärdh said.
"This is a record transfer that enables the continued development of the club. We wish Vince the best of luck in Brugge!"
According to multiple reports, Club Brugge are paying more than three million euros for Osuji, with the amount potentially reaching four million euros through performance-related bonuses.
