'People are writing all sorts of things' - Torunarigha speaks on Gent future amid Anderlecht interest
Published: January 13, 2025Jordan Torunarigha's future at KAA Gent remains uncertain, with the Super Eagles central defender entering the final six months of his contract.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Belgian Pro League giants Anderlecht, who are reportedly monitoring his situation.
The Nigerian international has been an integral part of Gent's defense since joining the club, making 128 appearances and contributing four goals and six assists.
However, with his contract set to expire in June 2025, Gent are facing the possibility of losing their key defender on a free transfer.
Anderlecht are actively seeking defensive reinforcements, and Torunarigha has emerged as a potential target.
The Hertha Berlin academy graduate was previously linked with moves to Torino, Crystal Palace, Leeds United, and Hoffenheim, but stayed put at Gent last summer.
Reacting to the transfer rumours linking him to the Belgian giants, the former Germany youth international stated that he hasn't made any contacts with anyone regarding the move.
He further went on to state his uncertainty about remaining at the club.
"I don't know if these are my last months in Gent," Torunarigha said in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad via VoetbalPrimeur.
"Anderlecht? People are writing all sorts of things, but nobody has asked me anything. I haven't spoken to anyone."
"We'll see what happens," Torunarigha added. "In football, anything is possible. The chance that I'll stay in Ghent is fifty-fifty."
Torunarigha's comments suggest that he is keeping his options open, and a move to Anderlecht remains a possibility.
Gent have reportedly offered Torunarigha a new two-year contract, but he is refusing to put pen to paper.
With the transfer window open, Torunarigha can sign a preliminary contract with another club, from now until June's end when his current contract will officially come to an end.
