Ipswich Town's box-to-box midfielder commits international future to Nigeria over England

Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Ipswich Town's box-to-box midfielder Abube Onuchukwu has committed his international future to Nigeria.

The 19-year-old also qualifies to represent England's Young Lions due to his British passport but has decided to represent Nigeria internationally.

Onuchukwu has opted for Nigeria over England ahead of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Ivory Coast.

It is understood that the Flying Eagles coaches are considering handing him a call-up to a training camp before the tournament in April.

A devoted supporter of the Super Eagles, Onuchukwu follows the team and some of their standout players, including Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina, on social media.

His decision to play for Nigeria highlights the increasing appeal of the Super Eagles among players with dual nationalities.

Six members of the Super Eagles squad to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations were born abroad, including Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, Joe Aribo, Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey, while Fulham ace Alex Iwobi represented England at youth level before switching to Nigeria.

Onuchukwu joined Ipswich Town last summer, inking a two-year contract that keeps him at the Tractor Boys until June 30, 2026.

He was impressive as Ipswich Town U21s thrashed Cardiff City 5-1 in their last match in the Professional Development League.
