Official: Tottenham legend who faced the Super Eagles three times to coach Kehinde at Ferencvaros

Hungarian champions Ferencvaros have announced the appointment of legendary Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane as the new coach of the club.

The former Republic of Ireland skipper replaces Dutchman Pascal Jansen at the 35-time league champions and 24-time cup winners.

Keane, who signed his contract on Monday, will be assisted by Rory Delap and match analyst Phill Hudson.

He arrived in Budapest on Sunday and is set to head to Spain on Tuesday to join Ferencvaros at their training camp.

Across a remarkable 19-year playing career, Keane scored a record 68 goals at senior international level, representing clubs such as Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan, Leeds, Tottenham, Liverpool, Celtic, West Ham, LA Galaxy, and Aston Villa.

A member of Ireland's squad at the 2002 World Cup and the 2012 and 2016 European Championships, Keane faced the Super Eagles three times at international level during his playing days.

He featured in a 2-1 loss to Nigeria in a pre-2002 World Cup friendly, was part of the squad beaten 3-0 by the Super Eagles two years later, and scored in his final outing against the three-time African champions during a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage in 2009.

Keane will be working with former Manchester United winger Tosin Kehinde at Ferencvaros.

The 2019 Olympic National team invitee registered two goals and four assists under former coach Pascal Jansen, who is set to be appointed as the new manager of MLS outfit New York City.
