Iwobi matches feat of Kanu, Yakubu in history-making game between Fulham and Ipswich

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi, etched his name into the history books in Fulham's entertaining 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town, as he became the fifth African player to make 50+ Premier League appearances for three different teams.

The Hale End academy graduate joined an elite group of African players, including Nigerian legends Nwankwo Kanu and Yakubu, as well as Senegal's duo of El Hadji Diouf and Mohamed Diamé.

Interestingly, the game marked a historic occurrence in the Premier League as Fulham and Ipswich scored penalties just two minutes apart (69th and 71st minutes respectively).

This marked the shortest gap between two penalty goals in a single half of an English top flight game since records began in 2006-07 according to football statisticians Opta.

Iwobi's performance this season has been impressive, with eight goal contributions in 20 appearances.

Under the guidance of Marco Silva, he has established himself as a key player for Fulham.

In fact, Iwobi became Nigeria's all-time assist provider in Premier League history earlier this season, breaking a record he previously shared with Kanu.

The Super Eagles star spent 15 years at Arsenal, making 149 appearances and winning the FA Cup and Community Shield.

He then moved to Everton for £35 million before joining Fulham in the summer of 2023.

He has made 55 appearances for the cottage club, scoring 11 goals and assisting his teammates on five occasions since his arrival.

Today's draw meant that Fulham now sit four points shy of the top six in the current standings.
