William Osula: What has Newcastle's Super Eagles-eligible forward said about his international future?

Newcastle United's dual-national forward William Osula is fully committed to his country of birth, Denmark at international level, allnigeriasoccer.com reports. 

The Aarhus native, who has a Danish mother, qualifies to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian father, but it is known that he's leaning towards representing The Red and Whites over the Super Eagles, as of now. 

Osula completed a high-profile move to Newcastle United during the summer transfer window but was signed as a player for the future.

He has struggled to secure game time, with established forwards like Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson ahead of him in manager Eddie Howe's attacking pecking order.

The 21-year-old was a non-playing substitute on Monday night as an in-form Newcastle United side secured their fourth win on the bounce, beating Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford. 

Osula, an FC Copenhagen academy product who has resided in England for more than eight years, spent 18 months at Manchester City before transferring to Sheffield United due to issues with international clearance.

After playing in a friendly for Denmark U19s, Osula became provisionally cap-tied to the Scandinavian giants on June 16, 2023 when he featured for the last six minutes of a European U21 Championship qualifier against Lithuania. 

Speaking to Tipsbladet in June 2022, Osula hinted that his international future lies with Denmark, rather than with Nigeria. 

"And hopefully one day I can also play for a national team," says William Osula, proudly pulling the national team jersey over his head.

"I feel at home in Denmark. I lived there, was born in Denmark and raised in Copenhagen. It's great to represent Denmark, which is a big part of me."

Osula made his full debut for Newcastle United against AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the Carabao Cup back in October.
