'The goals are there' - Onuoha impressed with Liverpool forward despite contract stalemate
Published: December 31, 2024Nedum Onuoha has praised Liverpool star Mohamed Salah for his professionalism and exemplary performances despite the ongoing contract stalemate with the Reds.
The 32-year-old’s current contract is set to expire next summer, leaving him free to negotiate terms with non-English clubs from January 1 if no extension is agreed.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the Egyptian forward has not let it affect his form as he has been in scintillating form since the start of the season, cementing his status as arguably the best player in the Premier League.
He currently leads the league’s scoring charts with 17 goals, four more than his nearest challenger, Erling Haaland and he has registered 13 assists, the highest in the division.
Salah shone once again at the London Stadium yesterday as Liverpool thrashed West Ham United 5-0 to solidify their position at the top of the standings.
The Egyptian talisman scored Liverpool’s third goal, calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner just before half-time. He also set up the fifth goal, providing a precise assist for Diogo Jota.
Speaking on ESPN FC after the match, Onuoha commended Salah’s performances, highlighting his ability to deliver consistently despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.
"He was having an argument last time Liverpool played West Ham. He was coming off the bench, I believe, and Klopp was having an argument with him, all that drama and now you fast forward and yes the goals are there, the assists are there, the smiles are there and his team is top of the Premier League."
"So yeah I am sure he hopes that they would sort something out by now but it is going to be very interesting next week when he can start speaking to other teams as well so may be that will speed things up for Liverpool's perspective to try and keep in there for as long as possible.”
Liverpool are reportedly keen to extend Salah’s stay at Anfield and will continue efforts to reach an agreement.
It remains to be seen whether the two parties can come to a compromise.
