No repeat of Onuachu exit: Racing Genk make transfer decision on in-demand striker Arokodare
Published: December 25, 2024
Racing Genk have made a transfer decision on in-demand Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare ahead of the reopening of the transfer window next week.
According to voetbalnieuws, Genk want to avoid repeating the same mistake they did with Paul Onuachu, who they sold in the 2023 January transfer window, by keeping Arokodare for the rest of the season.
As a result of letting Onuachu leave for Southampton midway into the season, the club lost their title charge.
Despite finishing atop of the table in the regular season, they lost the title to Royal Antwerp in the championship round.
Genk are in the same position as they were in 2023, as they sit atop the standings with 41 points, three points ahead of second-placed Club Brugge, who are also the defending champions.
Arokodare, who coincidentally replaced Onuachu, is leading Thorsten Fink's side's push for the title and has been one of the best players in the Belgian top flight.
He ranks second in the top-scorer's chart, alongside Adriano Bertaccini, scoring 11 goals in 19 games, the most he has scored in a season in the Jupiler Pro-League.
It is not surprising that Genk are unwilling to part ways with him in next month's transfer and they will be hoping that he stays fit for the rest of the season.
