'We can certainly improve' - Lookman urges teammates to raise their game ahead of Lazio v Atalanta
Published: December 23, 2024
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has called on his Atalanta teammates to raise their game ahead of their crucial Serie A encounter against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.
Lookman’s plea follows Atalanta’s unconvincing 3-2 victory over Empoli at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Nigerian striker played a pivotal role in the win, scoring Atalanta’s second goal to secure a 2-1 lead going into halftime after Empoli’s Lorenzo Colombo opened the scoring.
Charles De Ketelaere equalized for the hosts before adding the match-winning goal in the second half, following Samuele Esposito's penalty that had temporarily drawn Empoli level.
Despite the victory, Lookman expressed the need for Atalanta to improve as they prepare to face a formidable Lazio side.
Speaking after the match, he emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and avoiding complacency.
“We can certainly improve further," Lookman said to DAZN, via Tuttomercatoweb.
"Now we are thinking about the match against Lazio, it will be another difficult match and we want to win again. We need to grow in every aspect and continue to win."
Lookman has been a standout performer for Atalanta this season, emerging as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
The Nigerian international has netted 12 goals and provided five assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.
His contributions have been instrumental in keeping Atalanta at the top of Serie A and in contention for an automatic UEFA Champions League quarterfinal spot through their league position.
