'Important to come to this team' - Osimhen reveals the secret behind blistering start at Galatasaray
Published: December 23, 2024Victor Osimhen continued his blistering start to life at Galatasaray as he netted a brace to help the Turkish giants beat Kayserispor 5-1 in the Trendyol Süper Lig fixture played on Sunday afternoon.
The 25-year-old opened the scoring from the penalty spot, showing calmness to dispatch the ball beyond the goalkeeper and has now netted two penalties in the Süper Lig.
He then showed why he is one of Europe's finest strikers with his second goal, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper to register his third brace in the Turkish top flight.
After the injury to Mauro Icardi, there was added pressure on the Napoli-owned forward to deliver, and he has done that remarkably, helping the club maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Courtesy of his brace against Kayserispor, he has now netted nine league goals this season, one less than the Süper Lig's top-scorer Krzysztof Piątek.
Speaking to Galatasaray's official website after the victory over Kayserispor, Osimhen attributed his excellent form to the efforts of his teammates and his previous experience with playing with Dries Mertens.
"It was very important to come to this team and be a part of this big club and adapt quickly. All my teammates and staff played a very important role in this," Osimhen stated.
"They made me feel at home from the very first moment. I adapted very easily. I learned how Barış, Yunus and other players play. I had already played with Dries before.
"I was very happy to be able to get in between them and help them the way I wanted. We continue undefeated in the league and in Europe. As our coach said, we need to go step by step.
"Every match is very important for us. We also have goals in the Super League. We want to continue on our way."
Osimhen has not only been superb in the Süper Lig but also the UEFA Europa League, scoring three goals and providing two assists in four games to help Galatasaray qualify for the knockout phase of the competition.
