Bayer Leverkusen and Boniface in talks over new deal until 2029 amid Man Utd interest

Bayer Leverkusen have begun negotiations to extend Victor Boniface’s contract in an effort to fend off interest from Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Nigerian striker has been on the radar of the Red Devils following a stellar campaign with Leverkusen, where his performances have solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising forwards.

While United are keeping tabs on Boniface, they are also reportedly interested in Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, a move that could see him reunited with former manager Ruben Amorim.

Boniface joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2023 and has quickly become a key player for Die Werkself.

The 23-year-old has netted 29 goals and provided 11 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s double-winning campaign, which saw them claim both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.

Given his exceptional form, speculation about a potential exit has been rife, with several European heavyweights reportedly showing interest.

However, Leverkusen are determined to retain their star man.

According to German transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg, Leverkusen have initiated discussions to extend Boniface’s contract by an additional year, keeping him at the club until 2029.

The club is also prepared to make him one of the squad’s highest earners to deter suitors and ensure his continued commitment.

By securing Boniface’s future, Bayer Leverkusen aim to build on their domestic success and strengthen their chances of competing for European honours in the coming seasons.
