In his father's footsteps: Inter Milan-reared forward Kevin Martins shares what makes him stand out
Published: December 04, 2024
Kevin Martins, the young Monza forward, has shared insight on the key traits that help him be both creative and disruptive against opposing defenses.
At product of the Inter Milan academy, Kevin is making a name for himself, following in the footsteps of his father, former Nigerian international Obafemi Martins, and his mother's brother, Mario Balotelli.
Following his Serie A debut in a challenging 2-0 loss against Napoli on September 29, 2024, Kevin has already proven himself as a promising talent with a knack for creativity and the ability to disrupt opposition defenses.
This season, Kevin has caught attention with his performances for Monza, appearing in three first team matches across all competitions.
The 19-year-old has played in two Italian Cup games and one Serie A match, where he provided an assist.
His contributions extend beyond the first team, as he has also been instrumental for Monza's youth side, providing two assists in seven matches in the Primavera 1 division.
In an interview with SportMediaset via tuttomercatoweb, Kevin highlighted his primary attributes that define his playing style.
"My most important characteristics are speed and dribbling. They are two things that I always exploit and that I can use on the counterattack or trying to create something from nothing, I like to be imaginative," Martins said.
"I always try to give my best and give something more with my characteristics, my dribbling, my one-on-one, creating some opportunities."
These attributes echo the legacy of his father, Obafemi Martins, who was known for his blistering pace and skill, leaving defenders in his wake throughout his career.
As Kevin aims to surpass his father's achievements, at just 19, the football world is keenly watching his progress.
Despite having represented Italy at the U15 level, Kevin remains eligible to don the Nigerian jersey, a prospect that has not gone unnoticed.
