Boniface pulls a fast one: Leverkusen striker still undergoing individual training amid social media post
Published: December 03, 2024Victor Boniface is still not nearing a return to action, contrary to what his Instagram post on Monday evening might imply.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker has been inactive for approximately two weeks after suffering a muscle-related injury during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between the Super Eagles and Rwanda's Wasps.
Boniface was not called up for the Bundesliga games against Heidenheim and Union Berlin, nor was he included in the traveling squad for the Champions League clash with Salzburg or the DFB-Pokal match against Bayern Munich.
On social media, the center forward shared an image of himself with the ball at his feet.
German newspaper Bild has been in touch with Bayer Leverkusen, who clarified that the picture is not current.
Boniface is focusing on individual training as part of his rehabilitation program but has not started working with the ball.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has refused to rule out the possibility of the 23-year-old making his comeback from injury before the winter break.
"We have hope. Boni is on the right track. We have to check every 2 to 3 days to see how he is recovering," Alonso told reporters before the trip to Bayern Munich.
"But it is still too early to say whether he will be back before Christmas."
Die Werkself are set to play four more fixtures—against St. Pauli, Inter Milan, Augsburg, and Freiburg—before their holiday begins.
Before his spell on the sidelines, Boniface was in good form for Bayer Leverkusen, notching eight goals in fifteen appearances across all competitions.
