Galatasaray striker Osimhen wins award in Turkiye ahead of 38th cap for Super Eagles
Published: November 14, 2024
Victor Osimhen won the Goal of the Week award in the Turkish Super Lig, few hours before making his 38th appearance for the Super Eagles in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Benin's Cheetahs.
The Napoli loanee has been named in Nigeria's starting lineup for Thursday evening's clash at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.
Osimhen's first goal for Galatasaray in the 3-2 win over Samsunpor in the Super Lig fixture played at RAMS Park on Sunday has been voted as the beIN SPORTS Goal of the Week.
The 25-year-old powered a header from Lucas Torreira's cross to put the Lion ahead in the third minute, with beIN SPORTS reporting the header's speed at 71 kilometers per hour as it soared past Samsunspor's goalkeeper Okan Kocuk.
He beat former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat's goal for Fenerbahçe against Sivasspor, Ahmed Kutucu's goal for Eyüpspor against Adana Demirspor and Amir Hadžiahmetović's strike for Çaykur Rizespor in their victory over Trabzonspor to the award.
Osimhen garnered 53.04% of the votes, followed by Amrabat, who garnered 38 40%, Kutucu with 5.25% and Hadžiahmetović, who got the least with 3.31% of the votes cast.
This is the second time that the Super Eagles striker would be winning the award as his brilliant 28th-minute strike against Kasımpaşa in September was also voted as the Goal of the Week.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year has been one of the standout players in the Super Lig this term and has scored or assisted in every matchday, registering six goals and two assists in six outings.
