Zach Awe: Southampton loanee named in League Two TOTW after scoring first professional goal
Published: November 11, 2024Southampton loanee Zach Awe has been named in the official League Two Team of the Week on the back of his outstanding performance in the last round of matches played in the fourth tier of English football.
Awe joined Accrington Stanley on loan for the 2024-2025 season in search of first team football.
The Hale End Academy graduate has appeared in eighteen matches for Accrington Stanley since the season started and his only goal involvement came against Chesterfield FC this past weekend.
In the 65th minute, the tall central defender scored his first professional goal, placing an effort past the goalkeeper after combining with Dara Costelloe.
Awe was the winner of the Accrington Stanley Supporters' Man of the Match award for his brilliant performance in the road win against Chesterfield.
The on-loan centre-back made four clearances, two interceptions and one tackle over the course of ninety minutes and was awarded a rating of 8.32.
Awe joined Southampton in July 2023 after rejecting a new contract at boyhood club Arsenal, where he spent eleven years.
Before joining Accrington Stanley on loan, his first squad involvement as a professional came against Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 10, 2022.
The 20-year-old has played in friendly matches for England at U15 and U16 level.
