Fenerbahce's Osayi-Samuel hits two major milestones before flying to Abidjan to link up with Super Eagles
Published: November 11, 2024
In his final appearance before traveling to Abidjan for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Gernot Rohr's Cheetahs, Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Samuel celebrated two major career milestones.
The fullback played his 100th match in the Turkish Super Lig against Sivasspor, with his side cruising to a 4-0 victory.
This landmark appearance underscores Osayi-Samuel's significant contribution to the Yellow Canaries since joining in January 2021.
Osayi-Samuel made his Super Lig debut on January 30, 2021, against Çaykur Rizespor and has since become an integral part of the team.
His appearance at Ülker Stadyumu FB Şükrü Saraçoğlu Spor Kompleksi on Sunday also meant that the 26-year-old has accumulated 150 official appearances in all competitions for Fenerbahce.
The skilled fullback wasted no time making an impact at Fenerbahce, scoring his first goal on March 8, 2021, in a 3-0 away victory against Konyaspor in the Süper Lig.
His continental debut followed five months later on August 19, 2021, in a 1-0 win against HJK Helsinki in the UEFA Europa League qualifying round.
Osayi-Samuel's statistics for the club is also pretty decent as he has scored six league goals and seven overall, while registering 14 assists, eight of which came in the Super Lig.
This season, he has featured in five Super Lig matches, three UEFA Europa League games, and three UEFA Champions League qualifiers, totaling eleven appearances in all competitions.
Osayi-Samuel has yet to extend his contract at Fenerbahçe , sparking interest from several European clubs.
Momentarily, his focus will be on helping the Super Eagles seal qualification to next year's AFCON, as he was selected by interim manager Austin Eguavoen in his 23-man squad that will do battle against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
