'We play in the Premier League' - Tottenham coach Postecoglou unfazed by Osimhen and Icardi threat
Published: November 07, 2024
Cap-tied England international of Nigerian descent Dominic Solanke and manager Ange Postecoglou were on media duties on Wednesday, on the eve of Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League match against Galatasaray at RAMS Park in Istanbul, Turkiye.
One of the questions Postecoglou was asked during the press conference was how his team would handle the threat posed by Victor Osimhen and Mauro Icardi in Galatasaray's front line.
Osimhen and Icardi have been firing on all cylinders with sixteen goal involvements between them since the start of the season.
Tottenham and Galatasaray head into the tie in good form in the Europa League, with the Londoners one of the three teams with a one hundred percent record and the Turkish champions winning all but one of their games.
With nine goals, Galatasaray share the top spot for highest scorers in the Europa League alongside Lazio.
Icardi has accounted for two of those goals, while Osimhen has delivered two headed assists, both of which were against PAOK Thessaloniki.
Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that Galatasaray have some outstanding individual players but pointed out that his side regularly compete against world-class players in the Premier League.
"As I said very good team, very, very good individual players but that's what you expect when you play against top European sides," he said.
"Obviously we play in the Premier League so we're facing top opponents every week, so we understand what that's about and top individual players, but again it's a good test for us tomorrow.
"We started well in the Europa League, our results have been good home and away, and we want to continue that."
Osimhen is struggling to overcome a niggle and will undergo a late fitness test to determine his availability for selection against Tottenham Hotspur.
