Confirmed: Osimhen to undergo late fitness test before Galatasaray v Tottenham Hotspur
Published: November 06, 2024Victor Osimhen will undergo a late fitness test to determine his availability for Thursday's Europa League clash between Turkish champions Galatasaray and Tottenham Hotspur, Lion manager Okan Buruk told reporters at the pre-match press conference.
There has been apprehension regarding the fitness of the Nigerian striker in recent days, but that fear was alleviated when he was pictured back in training yesterday.
Osimhen has been one of the best players for Galatasaray since making his debut with the only blemish in his stay with the Turkish giants so far being his fitness concerns, missing two games before the October international break, due to a muscle strain injury.
This also led to his omission from the Super Eagles squad named for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification games against Libya last month.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow's fixture with the Lilywhites, Buruk revealed that a decision is yet to be made on whether the 25-year-old is going to feature in the contest.
In quotes relayed by NTVSpor, the Turkish tactician said: "We used different systems in the last two games, but our first priority is the four-man defense. We change it from time to time according to the opponent's structure.
"Osimhen went to training yesterday, we will make a decision about him, and we will make a decision about the other players.
"Today is the last training, we will try to make it a little more clear. Our main idea this season has always been about the four-man defense.
"We will make a clear decision about this tomorrow. Galatasaray tried to play its own game against every team in every game, we will try to play our own game again."
Spurs also have their fitness concerns heading into the contest, but Buruk will be hoping to have Osimhen and his other key players fit to boost their chances of victory.
Galatasaray have garnered seven points from their opening three games in the Europa League but will face a stern test against Tottenham, who are yet to drop a point in the competition.
