Nwaneri battles Man Utd, Liverpool, Tottenham, Southampton stars for Carabao Cup Goal of the Round
Published: November 06, 2024England U19 skipper Ethan Nwaneri has been nominated for the Carabao Cup Goal of the Round.
The Super Eagles-eligible attacking midfielder doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute as Arsenal thrashed Preston North End 3-0 at Deepdale to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.
The Hale End Academy product scored a brace on his EFL Cup debut against Bolton Wanderers, and he followed that up with another brilliant goal in the convincing win at Preston North End.
Nwaneri curled in a superb effort after receiving the ball from Gabriel Jesus just outside the box.
The 17-year-old's wonder strike is among the six contenders for the Carabao Cup Goal of the Round.Â
To win the Goal of the Round award, the dual-national player faces strong competition from Sheffield Wednesday's Djeidi Gassama, Southampton’s James Bree, Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, Tottenham Hotspur's Pape Sarr and Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.
Nwaneri is the fifth highest rated player (8.49) in this season's Carabao Cup for players with at least two appearances in the competition.
Only Liverpool's Cody Gakpo (9.37) and Manchester United trio Alejandro Garnacho (9.04), Casemiro (8.57) and Bruno Fernandes (8.55) rank higher than Nwaneri in the best rated players in the Carabao Cup.
Nwaneri is expected to be named in Arsenal's gameday squad for the Champions League encounter against Inter Milan at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as he was spotted boarding the team flight at Luton Airport on Tuesday, November 5.
