Norwich City and Lens linked with move for N61.5m-a-week Fenerbahce's Super Eagles defender
Published: October 07, 2024Fenerbahce fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel is garnering attention from both Norwich City and Ligue 1 side Lens ahead of the winter transfer window.
Osayi-Samuel, who is in the final year of his contract, is eligible to negotiate with the clubs in January to join either club on a free transfer next summer.
Since joining Fenerbahçe in 2021 from Queens Park Rangers, Osayi-Samuel has established himself as a key player for the club.
He has contributed to the team’s recent success, helping them win the Turkish Cup in the 2022-2023 season.
Due to his performances, Fenerbahçe are reportedly keen to retain Osayi-Samuel and have proposed a contract extension worth about 2 million euros annually.
However, the player is reportedly holding out for a salary of 2.5 million euros, representing a 40% increase from his current earnings of about 1.8 million euros (approximately N61.5 million per week in Nigerian currency).
While the club is willing to extend his contract, they have yet to finalize the terms.
According to Fanatik, Lens and Norwich City are prepared to offer him a contract to lure him in the summer.
Both clubs are eager to strengthen their defenses and are interested in convincing the 26-year-old of a summer move.
However, the Super Eagles fullback reportedly remain undecided about his future with the Turkish club, as negotiations linger.
Osayi-Samuel received a call-up from interim Super Eagles manager Austin Eguavoen for Nigeria’s upcoming double-header against Libya.
The 26-year-old, who missed the last two games against Benin and Rwanda, will be seeking to earn his nineteenth cap when Nigeria face Libya in Uyo on Friday, October 11.
As his contract nears expiration, Fenerbahçe must secure an agreement with Osayi-Samuel to avoid losing him for free next summer.
