Ajakaye to join Super Falcons stars Oshoala, Alozie, Payne, Kanu in USA; departs Madrid CFF
Published: October 04, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Falconets star Opeyemi Ajakaye has ended her association with Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino side, Madrid CFF.
Ajakaye has already signed a deal with an unnamed club in the United States of America.
The 18-year-old forward who represented Nigeria at the just concluded FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Venezuela, initially joined Madrid CFF from FC Robo Queens, following a stellar performance at the U-17 Women's World Cup in 2022.
Prior to representing Nigeria at the just completed U-20 tournament, Opeyemi hadn't been named in any matchday squads for Madrid CFF since June, raising concerns about her whereabouts at club level.
Although key details of the agreement with the American club including the length of the contract remain confidential, the Nigeria youth international is set to follow in the footsteps of Super Falcons stars Asisat Oshoala, Deborah Abiodun, Michelle Alozie, Uchenna Kanu and Nicole Payne, who are currently plying their trade in the United States
The 2024 regular season of the National Women's Soccer League is reaching its climax, with four matchdays remaining, while the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer (Collegiate) season is also set to conclude next month and it remains to be seen which one she will be joining at this point.
Ajakaye was invited to the Super Falcons for the Paris 2024 Olympics qualification game against Ethiopia in October 2023, and made her debut off the bench in the closing minutes of the encounter at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa.
She is leaving Madrid CFF without making her debut for the club in the Liga F.
