Coach reacts to Olatunji's 'I am a chosen, who are you?' celebration after scoring on UCL debut
Published: September 21, 2024Coach Bello A. Lasoro, the academy coach of Victor Olatunji has reacted to his celebration after scoring on his UEFA Champions League debut against Salzburg.
Victor Olatunji made a sensational debut in the UEFA Champions League, helping Sparta Praha secure a commanding 3-0 victory over Salzburg on Wednesday night.
The 25-year-old forward not only scored a goal but also provided an assist, showcasing his talent on the European stage.
Olatunji doubled the advantage in the 42nd minute, expertly placing the ball past Salzburg goalkeeper Blaswich following a precise lofted pass from teammate Filip Panák.
Twelve minutes into the second half, he turned provider, assisting Qazim Laci for Sparta's third goal.
Following his first goal, Olatunji celebrated with Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark 'Siuu' celebration and unveiled a shirt bearing the phrase, "I am a chosen, who are you?"
This celebration sparked conversation, prompting reactions from his academy coach, Bello A. Lasoro.
Lasoro acknowledged Olatunji's determination, explaining that the phrase is part of an online trend in Nigeria.
“Yes, it's a trend presently, but he had a plan and determination to score,” Lasoro told allnigeriasoccer.com.
"It reminds me of a match at the Dipo Dina international stadium in Ijebu-Ode, when we needed a win and we had a plan to score an early goal.
"His teammate then Abass Lawal gave a pass immediately after kick-off and in 23 seconds he scored a goal."
"That's the fastest goal of the tournament. So he always believe he can do it and I'm sure he had a plan before the match not just to score."
The coach also highlighted Olatunji’s relentless drive to excel, saying, "That's how he always wants to give 100 plus and be the best. The funny side he is not a member of winners Chaple.
"Although I don't know of present, but he grew up in a devoted Christian family."
He added humorously, "The funny side he is not a member of The Lord's Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries. Although I don't know of present, but he grew up in a devoted Christian family."
Lasoro concluded by reflecting on his role in nurturing Olatunji's talent: "He is the chosen one...and I think I'm too..laugh... I was chosen to discovered his innate born talent."
