Talented goalkeeper on the radar of Eguavoen keeps fourth consecutive clean sheet for Wrexham
Published: September 08, 2024Talented goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo continued his impressive start to the season with another clean sheet for EFL League One table-toppers Wrexham, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Hale End Academy graduate has now posted four consecutive clean sheets in the third tier of English football in the new season.
Making his fifth appearance in the division, Okonkwo shone as the Red Dragons thrashed Shrewsbury Town 3-0 in a derby on Saturday evening.
Goals from Ollie Palmer, Elliot Lee and Jack Marriott secured Wrexham their fourth win of the campaign.
Okonkwo's earlier clean sheets in back-to-back matches against Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Peterborough United brought his total to four from a possible five in the new season.
The last goal he conceded in the League One was courtesy of Wycombe Wanderers forward Sam Vokes in the 89th minute of the opening round of the campaign.
It is confirmed that NFF's technical director and interim Nigeria manager Augustine Eguavoen has held multiple talks with Okonkwo with a view to a possible call-up to the Nigeria national team in the future.
A few years ago, the Arsenal-trained goalkeeper was recommended to former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr by ex-Nigerian Federation boss Amaju Pinnick but the German football tactician argued that he was too young to be invited to the senior national team.
The 22-year-old registered sixteen clean sheets in 40 all-competition appearances in 2023-2024 and was officially named the finest goalkeeper in League Two by the EFL, having been included in the Team of the Season.
