Wolverhampton Wanderers agree deal to sign 17-year-old Nigerian centre-back from Chelsea
Published: August 30, 2024Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to sign young Nigerian centre-back Saheed Olagunju from Chelsea.
As revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Wolves have agreed a deal to sign the 17-year-old defender with the deal set to be signed today.
The centre-back was part of Chelsea's academy scholars last season but hasn't signed a professional contract with the Blues, which has paved the way for his imminent move to Wolves.
He made his debut in the U18 Premier League in the 2022/2023 season, in the opening fixture against West Brom but didn't get any minute till last December, in another clash against West Brom.
Olagunju has featured in Hassan Sulaimon's side first two league games this campaign but may have now played his last game for the team due to his imminent move to Wolves.
Interestingly, Chelsea had attempted to sign a youngster from the Wanderers this season, in Wesley Okoduwa, the son of ex-Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Okoduwa but failed in their attempt.
The Blues eventually withdrew their interest in the talented defender who has now signed a scholarship deal and is now set to be joined by Olagunju at Wolves.
With a host of senior defenders for Gary O'Neil to choose from for the first team, it will be interesting to see if any of the duo make their senior debut this season.
