Record-breaking deal for a Nigerian player: Al-Ahli reach agreement with Napoli to sign Chelsea target

Al-Ahli have reached an agreement with Napoli to sign Chelsea target Victor Osimhen.

As revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi Pro-League club have agreed a total fee between €75m-€80m with Napoli for the Super Eagles forward and are ready to offer him a four-year contract worth €25m-to €30m.

As requested by the lanky forward, the Saudi Arabian side have also agreed to have a release clause inserted into his contract, the figure of which is unknown at the moment.

If the deal goes through, Osimhen, who will earn at least 25 million euros per season, will become the highest-earning Nigerian player in history, overtaking Odion Ighalo who pocketed more than 12.1 million euros per season at Shanghai Shenhua.

Chelsea made a last-ditch attempt to sign the 25-year-old by submitting a loan plus an obligation to buy offer to Napoli last night for the striker but have been unable to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge.

Osimhen has been a long-term target for the Blues but the Premier League giants have been unable to come up with financial terms that would have made him ditch Napoles for West London.

The two-time UEFA Champions League winners will now have to contend with Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and Christopher Nkunku as options to lead the attack or step up their move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

The 2015 Fifa U17 Golden Boot winner has been in the sights of Al-Ahli since last summer and offered him a mouth-watering contract which the player rejected.

Al-Ahli reignited their interest this summer and are now on the verge of getting a deal done for the Nigeria international.
