Announcement imminent: Nigerian centre-back passes medical ahead of loan move to Swansea City
Published: August 22, 2024English-born Nigerian central defender Nelson Abbey has successfully passed his medical examination ahead of a loan move to Swansea City, set to last until the end of the 2024-2025 season, according to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Swansea City, seeking to bolster their defense before the summer transfer window closes, have identified Abbey as a potential solution.
The 20-year-old began his career with Reading and made his professional debut for the club on September 15, 2020, as a substitute in a Carabao Cup match against Luton Town.
He signed his professional contract with Reading in December 2020.
Despite his promising start, Reading had to part ways with Abbey due to financial constraints after four seasons with the first team.
Olympiacos signed him to a two-year deal worth approximately €400,000.
Abbey joined Olympiacos in January 2024 following a promising stint with Reading.
Despite his potential, he struggled to make an impact in Greek football, featuring in only four matches for Olympiacos during the latter part of the 2023/2024 season.
This move offers Abbey a chance to revitalize his career and enhance his development in a more familiar setting.
A player with leadership qualities, he has represented England at U17 and U20 levels.
