Bayer Leverkusen striker Boniface reveals the greatest strengths of Harry Kane and and Guirassy
Published: August 22, 2024
Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has acknowledged that he is not a finished product yet and hopes to be more clinical in front of goal in the new Bundesliga season.
Boniface ranked eighth in the goalscoring charts in his first season in the German top-flight, behind Harry Kane (36), Serhou Guirassy (28), Loïs Openda (24), Deniz Undav (18), Maximilian Beier (16), Andrej Kramarić (15) and Ermedin Demirović (15).
Having said that, the former Bodo/Glimt man was not available for selection in eleven straight games due to a serious injury sustained during Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations training camp in the United Arab Emirates.
Boniface missed sixteen big chances over the course of the season, which is eleven fewer than Kane's total of 27 and four fewer than Serhou Guirassy, both of whom played more matches than the Nigerian international.
The reigning Bundesliga Rookie of the Season has praised Bayern Munich superstar Kane and Borussia Dortmund summer signing Guirassy for their goalscoring ability and revealed their biggest strengths.
Speaking to the official website of the Bundesliga, Boniface said: "I think for Harry Kane it is the goalscoring ability. In the box he is deadly. When he has a chance in the box he is deadly.
"For Guirassy it is going behind in the box. That is the mentality I am trying to have. I am still young, I am still learning from people like them.
"So, I think I have a lot to learn when it comes to that area. To be deadly. When I have four or five chances, I should score at least four. I am still learning, I am trying to get to that point."
Boniface is available for selection on Friday evening when defending champions Bayer Leverkusen take on Borussia Mönchengladbach in their Bundesliga opener
The 23-year-old was handed a one-game ban for his middle finger gesture during the Supercup clash against VfB Stuttgart last Saturday, but the suspension only applies to the DFB Cup.
