Super Eagles goalkeeper Okoye signs new Udinese contract to end Inter Milan, Torino links
Published: August 20, 2024
Through a statement on their official website, Udinese have announced that Nigeria international Maduka Okoye has comitted his future to the club by putting pen to paper on a new contract.
Okoye's new deal with the Bianconeri has ended speculation surrounding his future, with reports linking him with possible moves to Serie A champions Inter Milan and Torino in the summer transfer window.
The German-born glovesman is now tied to Udinese until June 30, 2028, having inked a new four-year contract.
He has been rewarded with a new deal after a breakout 2023-2024 season in which he kept five clean sheets in the Italian top flight, helping Udinese maintain their Serie A status.
Okoye demonstrated a high level of performance that made him one of the best goalkeepers in the Serie A.
Signed from Watford in the summer of 2023, he initially struggled to break into the starting lineup as he was a non-playing substitute in sixteen consecutive games in the Serie A.
He made the number one position his own following an impressive Serie A debut against Bologna, posting a shutout in a 3-0 win, and ended the campaign with twenty one league games under his belt.
Overall, Okoye appeared in twenty two matches over the course of the season, and conceded 27 goals in 2010 minutes of action.
On the international stage, he was recalled to the Super Eagles squad for their June internationals against South Africa's Bafana Bafana and Benin's Cheetahs but was not utilized in the two 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Okoyes lists DJK SC Flingern 08, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen and Sparta Rotterdam as his previous clubs.
