Boniface on target as master of late goals Bayer Leverkusen win 2024 DFL-Supercup

Victor Boniface was on the scoresheet as Bayer Leverkusen defeated VfB Stuttgart on penalties in the 2024 DFL-Supercup played on Saturday night at the BayArena, with both sides playing a 2-2 draw during the regulation time.
Boniface gave Bayer Leverkusen the lead in the 11th minute when he tucked Edmond Tapsoba's pass home from inside the penalty area to hand the Bundesliga defending champions the advantage.
Four minutes later, Enzo Milliot put Stuttgart on level terms, putting the ball beyond the reach of Lukas Hradecky, the Black and Reds' goalkeeper.
Xabi Alonso's side were reduced to ten men before the end of the first half as Martin Terrier was given his marching orders by central referee Tobias Stieler.
Due to the Terrier's red card, Boniface was brought off for Jonathan Tah in the 41st minute as Alonso sought to make up the for the loss of the French forward.
Former Brighton forward Denis Undav gave Stuttgart the lead in the 63rd minute, tapping the ball home from Frans Kratzig's pass.
Two minutes before the end of the normal regulation time, Bayer Leverkusen restored parity through Patrik Schick, courtesy of a pass from Alejandro Grimaldo.
With scores leveled at the end of the stoppage time, the winner of the tie was decided by penalties with the defending Bundesliga champions winning 4-3.
Nathan Tella also featured in the encounter and was adjudged the third fastest player in the encounter, clocking 34.73 km/h but came off for Frimpong in the 73rd minute.
