Chelsea not considering swap deal involving Victor Osimhen and Romelu Lukaku
Published: August 17, 2024Renowned transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has provided fresh insight into the ongoing speculation surrounding Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen and Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku.
Speaking on his YouTube broadcast on Friday night, Romano revealed that Chelsea is not entertaining a swap deal between the two prolific strikers, despite Napoli's interest in Lukaku.
Chelsea had been linked with a potential swap deal for Osimhen due to Napoli's desire to secure Lukaku's services.
However, Romano clarified that the Blues are approaching the situations involving the two players separately.
"Chelsea see the two cases (Osimhen and Lukaku) in a separate way. Chelsea, as of today, are not expected to consider a swap deal between Lukaku and Osimhen," Romano stated.
He went on to explain Chelsea's current plans, revealing that the club is focused on resolving Lukaku's future before turning its attention to Osimhen.
The situation surrounding the Super Eagles star is expected to drag on until the end of the summer transfer window.
"Chelsea see this as two different situations. First of all, they want to sort out the future of Romelu Lukaku, probably to reach an agreement with Napoli, because Napoli have an agreement with Lukaku, which is a three-year contract.
"The salary and contract are okay, the conversation between Lukaku and Antonio Conte is constant, for sure Napoli want to get it done and Chelsea are discussing with Napoli."
Regarding Osimhen, Romano emphasized that no significant developments are expected soon.
"The big story of Osimhen will not be this weekend. The expectation for Victor Osimhen is to go close to the end of the transfer window.
"Chelsea, first of all, wants to sort the situation with Romelu Lukaku and then see what happens with Victor Osimhen," he noted.
Osimhen's future has been one of the major transfer sagas of the summer. While he reportedly agreed to personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, negotiations between the French giants and Napoli stalled, even with a release clause in place.
The Nigerian striker has expressed his desire to leave the Italian champions, but his future remains uncertain as the summer window draws to a close.
