Deal off: Ishaka's proposed move to Nottingham Forest from Rangers collapses
Published: August 16, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Thompson Ishaka's proposed move to English Premier League club Nottingham Forest from Scottish Premiership powerhouse Rangers has collapsed.
The 2023 Nigeria U20 invitee traveled to England this week to conclude transfer talks with the two-time European champions following a successful trial, but the move will not be happening.
The negotiations between Rangers and Nottingham Forest were complex as the Scottish club attempted to insert unrealistic clauses into the proposed contract, which led to the Premier League team removing themselves from the deal.
Meetings were held on Thursday, August 15 in a bid to resolve the impasse but no progress was achieved.
Two weeks before the summer transfer window closes for business, Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to other targets as they still want to strengthen the academy ranks.
The withdrawal of Nottingham Forest from the deal is a big blow to Ishaka, who prioritized a move to the City Ground over an Austrian club who had been in the running for his services.
The winger's future at Rangers is up in the air as he has entered the final year of his contract and the Light Blues are open to considering offers for him, provided their asking price is met.
A product of Riverlane Football Academy Enugu, Ishaka attracted concrete interest from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven before joining Rangers in 2023, while Chelsea and Manchester City considered inviting him for trials..
