Antwerp target released Crystal Palace midfielder to replace New England Revolution-bound Yusuf
Published: August 11, 2024Jupiler Pro League club Antwerp have started planning for life without Alhassan Yusuf who is set to complete a move to Major League Soccer club New England Revolution in the coming days.
New England Revolution have reached an agreement with Royal Antwerp for the services of the Nigeria international for a €3m fee, with a three and half years contract ready to be handed to him.
According to Voetbal International, Netherlands international midfielder Jaïro Riedewald will soon sign for Antwerp.
The 27-year-old is currently unemployed following his release by Crystal Palace upon the expiration of his contract on June 30, 2024.
Antwerp are in the market for reinforcements in midfield as Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Yusuf have been sold to Udinese and New England Revolution respectively.
Ajax academy product Jaïro Riedewald is expected to undergo a medical examination at Antwerp in the coming days ahead of a potential unveiling.
Yusuf has not played in the last two games contested by Antwerp, all but confirming he is leaving the club for good.
In a three-year association with Antwerp, the Tiki Taka Academy product played a total of 116 matches, scoring four times and providing seven assists.
On the international stage, Yusuf was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and was given minutes in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
