Germany's POTY 2024: Number of votes received by Boniface as Real Madrid icon wins award

Nigeria international Victor Boniface has missed out on Germany's Footballer of the Year for 2024, with German sports magazine Kicker - organizers of the prestigious award - informing on Sunday that Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos won the award.

Kroos retired from football after Germany were eliminated from the 2024 European Championship last month.

Regarded as one of the best midfielders in history, Kroos played a total of 832 matches, winning thirty five titles before hanging up his boots.

The 34-year-old first came to prominence at the 2007 Fifa U17 World Cup, putting his name on the scoresheet five times to help Germany secure a bronze medal and won the Golden Ball award ahead of Macauley Chrisantus (Nigeria) and Bojan (Spain).

Kroos was named Germany's Footballer of the Year for 2024 after amassing the most votes (285), claiming the prize ahead of Bayer Leverkusen duo  Florian Wirtz (246) and Granit Xhaka (66).

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface and twenty other players received one vote to finish joint 21st in the ranking.

The other players with one vote each are: Robert Andrich (Bayer Leverkusen), Maximilian Beier (TSG Hoffenheim), Hugo Ekitiké (Paris Saint-Germain/Eintracht Frankfurt), Davy Frick (FSV Zwickau), Chris Führich ( VfB Stuttgart), Robert Glatzel (Hamburger SV), Christian Groß (Werder Bremen), Ilkay Gündogan (FC Barcelona), Lewis Holtby (Holstein Kiel), Tim Kleindienst (1. FC Heidenheim), Fabian Klos (Arminia Bielefeld), Konrad Laimer (Bayern Munich), Florian Neuhaus (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Alexander Nübel (VfB Stuttgart), Tim Oberdorf (Fortuna Düsseldorf), Elias Saad (FC St. Pauli), Tim Schreiber (1. FC Saarbrücken), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig) , Christos Tzolis (Fortuna Düsseldorf) and Fabian Wirtz (SpVg Frechen/TuS Königsdorf).

Boniface made a splash in his first season in Germany, scoring 21 goals and providing ten assists as Bayer Leverkusen won the domestic double and reached the final of the 2024 Europa League.

After transferring from Union Saint-Gilloise to Bayer Leverkusen last summer, the Super Eagles star made an immediate impression and was named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for August, September, October and November.
