Scottish champions Celtic considering loaning out younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee
Published: August 02, 2024
After the recruitment of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo in the ongoing transfer window, Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are considering loaning out Tobi Oluwayemi - the younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Josh Oluwayemi - to a second tier club.
According to The Courier, Dunfermline Athletic F.C. are in talks with Celtic over a possible loan move for the English-born Nigerian goalkeeper.
Should he remain at Celtic Park, Oluwayemi could find himself as the fourth choice goalkeeper, behind Kaper Schmeichel, Scott Bain and Viljami Sinisalo, and could be playing for the B team in order to keep up his fitness levels.
Dunfermline Athletic are keen on signing Oluwayemi to provide competition for Deniz Mehmet, who started all the four games played in the League Cup without a backup keeper.
Apart from the Nigerian glovesman, the Pars also have on their radar two Scottish Premiership goalkeepers.
Oluwayemi was in Celtic's traveling squad to the United States for pre-season games but was not given minutes in the matches with DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea, which indicates he is not in the plans of manager Brendan Rodgers for the forthcoming season.
The former Tottenham Hotspur youth teamer was previously loaned out to Cork City and Admira Wacker but injuries limited his appearances to eleven for both teams.
Although Oluwayemi has yet to make his first team debut for the Hoops, he has received call-ups for European matches.
He has been capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels.
