Official: Nigerian defender signs scholarship deal with Charlton Athletic
Published: July 18, 2024Through their official website, EFL League One club Charlton Athletic have announced the new intake of academy scholars ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
Thirteen academy players, including Nigerian defender Lanre Olatunji, have signed two-year scholarship deals. which will see each player benefit from extra contact time on the football pitch as well as support in the classroom.
The intake consists of one goalkeeper, five defenders, three midfielders and four forwards.
The other first year scholars are: Jack Belton, Shia-Lee Burnham, Dionte Davis, Marley Dawkins, Tate Elliott , Ellis McMillan, Reuben Reid, Emmanuel Sol-Loza, Bradley Tagoe, Phoenix Valentine, Sam Washington-Amoah and Finley Woodham.
Twelve of the scholars were members of the team that became U16s national champions last year, while centre-back Tate Elliott was previously at West Ham United.
Olatunji has been promoted to the Addicks U18 team on a permanent basis and attended last week's U18s training camp at Haileybury School.
Super Eagles duo Ademola Lookman and Joe Aribo are products of the Charlton Athletic academy.
