Confirmed: Golden Eaglets-eligible midfielder signs new deal with Watford
Published: July 16, 2024Through a statement on their official website, Championship club Watford have announced the new intake of academy scholars for the 2024-2025 season, with a Golden Eaglets-eligible player part of the group.
2007-born midfielder Tobi Akinyimika has signed a two-year scholarship deal with the Hornets and will join the U18 team for the forthcoming season.
Zack Braverman, Tony Cowie, Marats Galajevs, Jai-Dea Moulton, Tyler Notley, Jael Norville, Jonny Scriven, Kymani Smith Daley, Sebastian Thrussell and Raul Vancea have also put pen to paper on scholarship deals.
Akinyimika joined Watford in January 8, 2024 and will be aiming to sign his first professional contract on or before the completion of his apprenticeship contract.
He will be given the chance to develop both on and off the pitch, gaining nationally recognised qualifications that will help him on his journey throughout life and football.
The 16-year-old will be aiming to emulate Nigerian players Tobi Adeyemo, Joseph Hungbo and Jayden Bennetts, who rose through the youth team ranks to make their first team debuts for Watford.
Akinyimika will be guided on the pitch by Watford U18s lead coach Matt Bevans and his assistant Lloyd Doyley.
Watford are set to compete in the U18 Professional Development League, U18 Professional Development League Cup and FA Youth Cup in the 2024-2025 season.
