Felix Agu: German-born RB who is open to representing Super Eagles signs new Werder Bremen deal
Published: July 16, 2024With a statement on their official website, German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen have confirmed that Felix Agu has committed his future to the River Islanders by putting pen to paper on a new contract.
Signed from VfL Osnabrück in the summer of 2020, Agu has extended his contract one year before its expiration.
Per club policy, Werder Bremen have kept the length and financial terms of the contract confidential, although it has been widely reported that the right-back is now contracted to the 1992 European Cup Winners Cup winners until 2027.
In total, Agu has appeared in 72 matches since landing at Werder Bremen, scoring two goals and providing seven assists.
A former Germany U21 international, the Osnabrück native admitted in December 2021 that he was open to representing the Super Eagles.
He played only two friendly games for Germany's youth team, hence, he doesn't have to request for a one-time change of association from Germany to Nigeria before wearing the Super Eagles jersey.
Commenting on his new deal, Agu said: "I’ve been here for four years, and, since we were relegated, I think we’ve kept on getting better as a team and players have been able to develop at Werder.
"I feel at home in the team, the club and the city and think these are perfect conditions for me to take the next step in my career."
For the forthcoming season, Agu has been assigned number 27 at Werder Bremen, while another player on the radar of the Nigerian Federation Justin Njinmah will play with number 11 on the back of his jersey.
