Confirmed: Combative Nigerian midfielder signs new deal with Leyton Orient
Published: July 11, 2024With a statement on their official website, EFL League One side Leyton Orient confirmed the new intake of academy scholars this week, ahead of the start of the 2024-2025 campaign, with a Nigerian player part of the group.
Eleven promising teenagers have joined Leyton Orient's academy, including Izu Okafor.
As per EFL rules, all players in their U17 year are required to start the 2024-2025 season on a scholarship agreement, before they are permitted to sign a first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday.
Claudio Asumu Nsang, Preston Knight, Zak O’Keefe, Zachary Hambury, Ethan Pike, Eddie Wright, Alfie Wellens, Aaron Sterling, Luke Northwood and Charlie Anderson have also put pen to paper on two-year scholarship deals with the Os.
Giving the lowdown on Izu Okafor, Leyton Orient described him as a combative midfielder who is strong in a tackle and often seen breaking up attacks through his fantastic understanding of the game.
The Golden Eaglets-eligible player has played nonstop at Leyton Orient since joining the club at U12 level.
Leyton Orient U18s will be competing in the FA Youth Cup, Youth Alliance League and Youth Alliance Cup in 2024-2025.
