Super Eagles left-back Zaidu among 28 players named in Porto's pre-season squad
Published: July 01, 2024Portuguese Primeira Liga powerhouse Porto have named their squad for the start of pre-season preparations this morning.
Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi is among the twenty-eight players called up by new Porto boss Vítor Bruno.
Porto's first training session in preparation for the 2024-2025 season starts at 10 am, before the usual medical and physical examinations at Clínica do Dragão in the afternoon.
As part of their preparations for the upcoming campaign, the Dragons will face Varzim, Chaves, Nacional, Al Arabi, Austria Vienna and Sturm Graz in friendly matches.
Whether Zaidu will be involved in these friendly games remains unknown, given that his injury is supposed to sideline him until at least late August.
In his first appearance at club level after representing the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Zaidu completely ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament of his left knee in the first half of Porto's 2-0 win over Estrela da Amadora on February 17.
The defender was operated upon by Prof. José Carlos Noronha at Hospital São Francisco do Porto on February 26.
Last season, Zaidu managed to play in ten matches across all competitions for Porto due to fitness issues and his involvement with the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations.
