Official: German-Nigerian attacking midfielder extends contract with FC Basel
Published: June 28, 2024With a statement on their official website, Swiss Super League side FC Basel have announced that German-Nigerian attacking midfielder Adriano Onyegbule has extended his contract.
The new deal will keep Onyegbule at the 20-time Swiss champions until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
Aged 18, he has been on the books of FC Basel since 2022 after stints at Hertha BSC and RasenBallsport Leipzig.
Oyegbule made his senior debut for Basel against FC St. Gallen in May 2023 and featured in three more matches for the senior side in the past season, including an appearance in the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round.
He caught the eye in last season's UEFA Youth League, scoring twice in four matches, and also stood out for Mario Cantaluppi's team, especially in the second half of the campaign, where he showcased his physical strength and ball control.
For the upcoming season, the dual national teenager has been promoted to Basel's first team on a permanent basis.
Onyegbule has represented Germany's youth teams in six matches — four with the U16s and two with the U17s — but remains eligible to play for the Flying Eagles as all his appearances were in friendlies.
