First red card in Major League Soccer for FC Cincinnati's Nwobodo and DC United's Akinmboni 

For the first time in their Major League Soccer careers,  FC Cincinnati defensive midfielder Obinna Nwobodo and DC United central defender Matai Akinmboni were sent off, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

2015 U20 Africa Cup of Nations winner with the Flying Eagles, Nwobodo took the walk of shame during the second half of his team's 2-1 loss to New England Revolution at TQL Stadium on Sunday morning.

This is the first time Nwobodo has been shown a red card since moving to the MLS from Turkish club Göztepe in April 2022, occurring in his 71st game in the American top-flight.

In the 34th minute, he was booked by referee Jon Freemon for a foul on New England Revolution midfielder Ian Harkes, and at minute 69,  FC Cincinnati were reduced to ten men for the remainder of the match as the Nigerian was sent off. 

The Cincinnati number 5 committed a foul while attempting to stop a fast break, resulting in a second yellow card and his subsequent sending off.

Elsewhere, United States U19 international Matai Akinmboni picked up two bookings, leading to a red card, as DC United were hammered 4-1 by Houston Dynamo at Audi Field.

Four minutes into the second half, the 17-year-old was booked for a handball and he got his marching orders in the fifth minute of stoppage time after a bad tackle. 

Akinmboni has made eleven career appearances in Major Leage Soccer, including seven starts.
