'Okocha, Kanu made me love Super Eagles' - KRC Genk's Arokodare says he's ready to die for Nigeria
Published: June 14, 2024
Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare has opened up about the players who ignited his passion for the Super Eagles, Nigeria's national football team.
Despite amassing an impressive record of 60 goals and 13 assists in 171 professional appearances, the 23-year-old forward is yet to make an appearance for Nigeria at the senior level.
In an interview with BrillaFM, Arokodare shared the influences that led to his admiration for the Super Eagles.
He highlighted the impact of Nigerian football legends Jay Jay Okocha and Kanu, expressing his desire to follow in their footsteps and represent his country on the international stage.
"Jay Jay Okocha and Kanu made me love the Super Eagles," Arokodare revealed.
"I'm not just speaking for myself, but I'm sure when you get a call-up, you'd go there to fight. If I do get a call-up, I'll give my all, I'll die there."
Born in Lagos, Arokodare has enjoyed a successful stint in Belgium, notably scoring 17 goals and providing 5 assists for Racing Genk.
Despite speculation surrounding his future, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2027, the striker remains focused on excelling at his current club, Genk.
"I'm still a Genk Player and I'm focused on that," affirmed Arokodare, brushing off rumors about a potential move.
Arokodare's journey in European football has seen him traverse various leagues. He began his European adventure with Latvian side Valmeria before joining F.C. Koln in the German Bundesliga on a short-term loan.
A subsequent move to French Ligue 1 outfit Amiens saw him net 21 goals and provide four assists in 63 appearances.
