Premier League new boys Ipswich Town offer new contract to talented Nigerian right-back
Published: June 11, 2024English Premier League new boys Ipswich Town have made a move to retain the services of talented Irish-born Nigerian defender Edwin Agbaje by offering him a new contract ahead of the 2024-2025 season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
A fullback capable of playing on the left and right side of defence, Agbaje has nineteen days left on his contract with the Tractor Boys.
The 20-year-old, who has caps for the Republic of Ireland at U15, U16 and U18 levels and has been called up to an U19 training camp, joined Ipswich Town in 2020 on a scholarship deal after stops at Shamrock Rovers, Edenderry Town and Kildare District.
The promising youngster signed his first professional contract with the Portman Road outfit in July 2022, a one-year contract with the club having the option to extend his stay by a further twelve months.
He is highly thought of by the coaching staff at Ipswich Town and made first team appearances for the club in the EFL Trophy and Emirates FA Cup whilst still a teenager.
Agbaje was outstanding in the 2022-2023 season, during which he made his professional debut and won the Academy Player of the Year award.
He made ten appearances, including eight as a starter, during a loan spell with non-league club Yeovil Town.
