Transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio reveals Inter Milan are interested in Super Eagles GK Maduka Okoye
Published: June 05, 2024Italian Serie A champions Inter Milan are being linked with a shock move for Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.
According to transfer market guru Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan are in the market for a reliable backup goalkeeper to Switzerland international Yann Sommer and Okoye is one of the three players being considered for the role.
The leadership of the Nerazzurri is also monitoring Athletico Paranaense's Bento and Genoa's Spain national teamer Josep Martínez, but the name that stands out is that of Maduka Okoye.
After being an unused substitute for sixteen consecutive matches in the Italian top-flight, Okoye displaced Marco Silvestri as Udinese's first choice goalkeeper in the second half of the recently concluded season.
Okoye made crucial saves and played a key role in helping Udinese retain their top-flight status at the end of the campaign.
Overall, the former Bayer Leverkusen youth teamer posted five shutouts while conceding twenty-five goals in twenty-one appearances in his debut season in the Serie A.
Nigeria manager Finidi George had to make room for Okoye in his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, dropping Francis Uzoho in favour of the German-born goalkeeper.
Okoye is under contract with Udinese until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
