Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos points out one major difference between Finidi and Peseiro style of play

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed what he has noticed about Finidi George's style of play compared to Jose Peseiro at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, ahead of next week's 2026 World Cup qualifying showdown in Uyo.
South Africa almost caused an upset the last time they faced off with the Super Eagles, who required a penalty shootout to see off the stubborn opponents in the semifinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Broos completely nullified the threat posed by tricky wingers Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon by tinkering with his formation and playing with three central defenders, which confused the Super Eagles in the first half.
The Belgian football tactician has blasted Peseiro for setting up his team to play negative football at the Africa Cup of Nations and noted that Finidi is an offensive coach.
Broos ran the rule over the Super Eagles during their internationals in March held in Morocco, where they beat Ghana before losing to Mali in their last game.
Speaking to reporters this week, Broos stated: "We will try to shock them again. It's a little bit different than the team of AFCON.
"With Finidi George they have a coach who thinks more offensively. Peseiro, he was a little bit more defensively and I saw that certainly in the game against us, he was always telling the team to go back.
"Also in the final they didn't really play offensively, they just tried to be good defensively and then hoping on a counterattack or a situation in front of the goal where they could score.
"I saw two games against Mali and Ghana, it's different. They take a little bit more initiative. It's not the team anymore who went back and wait.
"They also try to make pressure early in the game and close to the goal of the opponent, so we have to look for something now that we can shock them again like we did for the game in Ivory Coast."
The Nigeria verus South Africa match will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday, June 7, 2024, starting from 2000 hours.
