Promising Nigerian midfielder leaves Bayer Leverkusen for FC Zurich on two-year deal
Published: May 30, 2024Thirteen-time Swiss champions FC Zürich are on the verge of announcing the capture of talented Swiss-born Nigerian defensive midfielder Isaiah Okafor from Bayer Leverkusen.
Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that FC Zürich have reached an agreement to sign 2005 born midfielder Isaiah Okafor, who is leaving Bayer Leverkusen.
Isaiah is the younger brother of cap-tied Switzerland international of Nigerian descent Noah Okafor, who wears the colours of Italian giants AC Milan.
Isaiah joined Bayer leverkusen in January 2022 and has decided to embark on a new chapter in his career after failing to break into the first team of the German champions.
Although he played in some friendly matches for the first team, he departs Bayer Leverkusen without a competitive senior appearance to his name.
Overall, Okafor appeared in 39 matches for Bayer Leverkusen's U19 squad including five in the UEFA Youth League and was involved in five matches for the U17s before earning earning promotion to the U19s.
Romano has confirmed that Okafor will put pen to paper on an initial two-year deal with FC Zürich, plus an option to extend until June 30, 2029.
A product of FC Basel, Okafor has represented Switzerland at U17, U18 and U19 levels.
